Collection: Driver Bits

Driver Bits by Drive Type, Length, and Set

Driver bits connect your drill, impact driver, or screwdriver to the fastener, and a matched tip is what keeps screws from camming out. This Driver Bits collection is sorted by drive: Torx, Phillips, Square, hex, PoziDrive, slotted, and security tips, plus driver bit sets. Lines include Milwaukee SHOCKWAVE, Festool CENTROTEC, Makita ImpactX, Snappy, Wiha, Bosch Impact Tough, and Diablo.

Driver Bit Sets

Driver bit sets cover common tips in one case, from compact Festool and Wiha impact sets to Milwaukee SHOCKWAVE kits of up to 100 pieces, including one in a PACKOUT organizer.

Torx Driver Bits

Torx bits grip star-drive screws used in decking, structural screws, cabinets, and electronics. The six-lobe drive transfers torque with little cam-out, which is why so many construction screws use it.

Phillips Driver Bits

Phillips bits drive drywall, wood, and machine screws. PH2 is the size most people reach for. Festool sells CENTROTEC PH2 bits and PH2 bits for the DWC 18 screw gun magazine.

Square Drive Bits

Square drive bits, also called Robertson, fit cabinet, trim, and deck screws. Snappy offers #2 square bits in 3 and 6-inch lengths with hardened tips.

Hex Driver Bits

Hex bits drive socket head cap screws and furniture bolts in metric and SAE sizes. They are common in machinery, knock-down furniture, and bike repair.

PoziDrive Bits

PoziDrive bits look like Phillips but have extra ribs for European screws. A Phillips bit in a Pozi screw slips, so match the tip to the head.

Slotted Driver Bits

Slotted bits drive flat-blade screws in hardware, hinges, and older work. Pick a blade that fills the slot width to avoid marring the head.

Double-Ended Bits

Double-ended bits put a tip on each end, so a worn end can be flipped. Bosch Impact Tough, Diablo, and Irwin offer same-tip and mixed-tip versions.

Security and Specialty Bits

Tamper-resistant tips include Tri-Wing, Torq-Set, and spanner bits. Electricians can also choose ECX bits for combination screws.

Driver Bits FAQ

Do I need impact rated driver bits?

If you use an impact driver, yes. Impact rated bits, such as Milwaukee SHOCKWAVE, Makita ImpactX, and Wiha TerminatorBlue, have a torsion zone that flexes under the blows instead of snapping. Standard bits work fine in a drill driver or hand screwdriver.

Insert bit or power bit?

Short 1-inch insert bits sit in a bit holder. Longer 2-inch and up power bits snap straight into an impact driver and reach deeper.

How can I tell Phillips from PoziDrive?

PoziDrive screws have four small hash marks between the main slots. If you see them, use a PoziDrive bit. A Phillips bit will fit loosely and strip the head.
